How much do the programs cost?

It really depends on which is best for you or your family. Inside the 7 Day Pass we evaluate which program is best fit acording to your situation and make a recommendation on which class program is best.

Do I need to be a fit person to do Jiu Jitsu?

You don’t need to be fit to start training Jiu-Jitsu. In fact, Jiu Jitsu is a great way to get fit. At Nexus Jiu-Jitsueverybody is welcome on the mats regardless of their level of fitness. We have many beginner friendly classes that focus on technique and this is something everybody can perform.

10 Reasons why everyone should train Jiu Jitsu

What is the right age for children to start Jiu-Jitsu?

Every child is different. However we believe that around 4 years is a good age to start a martial art such as Jiu Jitsu. Our Children’s program caters for 4-12 year olds and focuses on making self-defence and physical education fun. We use conditioning and skill-oriented games to engage and challenge kids. The benefits go way beyond the physical. It will also teach your children valuable life skills such as courtesy, confidence, focus, discipline, team work, mental strength, and self-control.

Why should your children train Jiu-Jitsu

Do I need previous martial arts experience?

Not at all. If you have already trained in a different martial art that’s great but you do not need any previous martial arts experience. Regardless of whether you’re just starting out on your Jiu Jitsu journey, or an old timer, you will always be welcome.

Am I too old?

No such thing. It’s never too late to start training Jiu Jitsu. Our self-defence programs are designed to cater to everyone. All students are encouraged to train to their own limits and can push as hard as they want.

Do you have Women Only classes?

We run a Women’s only Self-defence Empowerment classes. This course is suitable for females (13yrs+) of any fitness level. It has been designed to provide an introduction into some basic practical self-defence skills.

Do I have to be strong to train Jiu-Jitsu?

The beautiful thing about JIU JITSU is the fundamental principle that a weaker and smaller person can defeat a stronger and heavier opponent using leverage and technique. Anybody with an open mind and a willingness to learn can train Jiu-Jitsu.

What if I am currently injured?

Depending on the nature of your injury there is a chance you can train around it. Have a chat with your professor to discuss options. Even if you have to sit out a few classes we still strongly encourage coming along to watch and learn.

What will I learn?

The primary focus of Gracie Jiu-Jitsu is learning self-defence. We will teach you the fundamentals of self-defence, as well as the modern evolution of the martial art. You will practice a range of techniques from many different positions. You’ll also learn how to control resisting opponents on the ground, as well as how to apply submissions effectively.

What do I need to bring?

All you need for your first class is comfortable clothing. A fitted t-shirt or rash guard is ideal, and pocketless shorts are preferable. For women tights and a top is fine. However, if you have a Jiu-Jitsu uniform or ‘Gi’ feel free to wear that. A water bottle and a small towel for drying off after the class is also a good idea.

Do I need any protective equipment?

Some students choose to wear a mouth guard when training. However, it’s entirely up to you.

Where do I buy my Uniform?

We have all the custom training gear you will need included in our starter pack!

I have a Gi but there are other club patches on them. Is this Ok?

This is not a problem. If you decide to continue your Jiu Jitsu journey at Nexus Gracie Jiu Jitsu then we ask that you purchase an individual Nexus patch and place it over the previous logo.

Do you welcome students from other academies?

Yes 100%. We’re focused on community. So everyone is welcome at Nexus Gracie Jiu-Jitsu Academy.

How often should I train?

This is really dependent on your lifestyle and your goals. You can train as little or as often as you like but to get the most benefit we recommend a minimum of twice a week. We have membership options to suit everyone’s needs.

How long does it take to grade?

This depends on a few different things. We pride ourselves on living the Jiu-Jitsu lifestyle. Grading comes from the effort you put in on and off the mats. Please note that it is essential that you use our Zenplanner App so that you can track your progress like how many classes you have attended, the requirements needed from you in order to move up to the next level and much more.

How long does it take to get a blue belt (First coloured belt)?

When participating on a regular basis a blue belt generally takes 1 to 1.5 years to achieve. Again, this is really dependent on how committed you are, and how often you train.

How long does it take to get a black belt?

Depending on the individual and their commitment level the processes to achieve a Black Belt can take more or less than 10 years.

How can I get started?

Complete the form in our contact us page or below and we’ll be in contact to organise a time and date that works best for you. Other ways to get started would be to simply walk in or give us a call.

Which classes are suitable for beginners?

Children aged 4-14 years are welcome at any of the children’s classes.

The fundamentals class is best suited to 15-17yr + olds and adult beginners. As you get more comfortable there is no reason why you can’t attend all levels and no Gi (uniform) classes.

How do memberships work?

We have two different types of membership options; a flexible fortnightly direct debit, or up front payments of 3, 6 or 12 months. If you’re on an ‘active’ membership and heading off on holidays or need to take a break, your membership can be frozen.

The payment frequency default is fortnightly, but this can be tailored to meet your preferences.
